Under near perfect conditions the hill climb champs for all age groups was held on Saturday 29 October.

Due to the closure of the Manawatu Gorge an alternative venue from previous years had to be used.

Although it was a short course it was a challenge for all of those who decided to test themselves.

Starting from the far bridge on Tiritea Rd riders were set off at 30 sec intervals and raced back along Tiritea and turned left onto Ngahere Park Rd.

The total distance was 4km but with a couple of very steep climbs on Ngahere Park Rd the course was a real challenge for some of the younger riders.

Congratulations to Megan who pulled off a narrow win for the  Sutton Cup which  was run on Saturday on the Halcombe, Stanway, Tokorangi course. The handicapping was superb and saw the majority of the field finish within 10 minutes of the first finishers. Thanks to Dave Bleakley who assisted on the finish line and also to Chris and Rebecca Denholm who were marshalls and Kirsty Kaihau for course layout. And a reminder to everyone to bring your shoes else you may have to end up riding in a different group than what you would normally be in.

The next club race is the Hill Climb Cup which is open to all age groups. Look at the calendar for more details.

Hillcrest High School student Steffie Holcroft walked away with Queen of the Mountain and Yellow jersey at the conclusion of the 38th Bike Manawatu Novice Tour held on 9 Oct in Palmerston North. She was 1 minute 27 seconds ahead of her Counties Manukau rival Devon Hiley and a further 1 minute 55 seconds back was Elise Salt. Not only did Holcroft take the two jerseys but she also won two of the three stages while also finishing second in the sprint ace competition. To the surprise of many Holcroft’s sporting passion is actually triathlon but the road cycling compliments her training.
