Simon Van Velthooven – Life Member Bike Manawatu 2014

Simon is the winner of numerous club, centre and national titles and he is currently a member of the New Zealand Elite Sprint Squad. His outstanding achievements to date include:

2012 London Olympic Bronze Medallist

Two times Kilo TT World Championship medallist

Martin (Marty) Baker – Life Member Palmerston North Cycling Club

A highly respected rider and administrator, Marty represented New Zealand in the 1970s on the road. He was involved in club and WCNI administration over a number of years. He is remembered for building a custom motor pace bike which was used to pace Palmerston North cyclists at Memorial Park and at the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games.

In 1977 Anthony Cuff, Mike McRedmond, Brett London, Bruce Watson (Levin) and Warren Sheehan (where was he from?) broke the World Team Indoor Roller Riding Record, In recognition Palmerston North Cycling Club granted the riders Life Membership.

Commonwealth Games 1978 Silver Medallist

World Flying Kilo Record in Mexico (59.6 seconds) the first man in the world to break the minute barrier.

New Zealand Kilo Record of 1.06.1 Wanganui 1981, this record stood for 25 years.

New Zealand Track representative 1978-1984 including the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

Mike McRedmond - Life Member Palmerston North Cycling Club 1977

Mike was the winner of numerous club, centre and national titles. His outstanding achievements include:

1982 Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist

New Zealand Track representative 1979-1986

National Junior track Head Coach 2006-2010

Personal Coach to numerous Palmerston North athletes including Jesse Sergent and Simon Van Velthooven.

Brett was a highly respected rider in the 1970s and he was the winner of numerous club and centre titles.

Rodney was a Club and WCNI Administrator in the 1970s.

 

 

Ian Grey – Life Member Feilding Cycling Club

Ian is a long-time coach, administrator and cycling stalwart. He has been the coach of two New Zealand Champions and New Zealand Representatives as well as a number of prominent up and coming riders.

Ian was heavily involved in the “resurrection” of the Feilding Track and remains heavily involved in the sport.
