The first day we flew to Auckland and after a quick stop we jumped on a flight to Sydney. It was all jokes on the plane, with most of us being excited for the racing ahead. After a long wait for our vans we finally were off to Canberra to stay at the Australian Institute of Sport. We arrived late that night at 12am. The Thursday began with relaxing and getting our bikes ready for the time trial. This was the stage that I wasn’t looking forward to.

Below is the points table for the Interclub series.

As mentioned in an Email to all members last week we were behind on points after 3 events and so we needed a good turnout at the final event to win the interclub cup.

Looking at the cup it has quite a history behind it. It was first competed for as an Interclub competition back in 1948 when Palmerston North won it. Several years it was not competed for, but out of the 37 times that it was competed for up until this year it was won by Wanganui 14 times and they were the current holders having won it 6 times in succession.

A concerted effort by Bike Manawatu riders across the grades saw the club wrestle the interclub trophy away from Whanganui on Saturday at Halcombe.

Many had thought the points differential was unassailable but that was not to be the case when 78 riders from both clubs contested a 23km circuit around Halcombe – Lethbridge - Makino – Stanway Road in sunny but cool conditions. First away were the A graders who were required to complete three laps of course.

Katherine, Elizabeth and Robert Stannard competed, last weekend, in the National Duathlon Championships in Taupo.

Competing in challenging weather conditions, Elizabeth came 2nd in the under 14 women's race, Robert came 4th in the Year 8 boys race, and Katherine came third in her age group.
