Our congratulations go to the Bike Manawatu juniors that have been selected for the NZ junior development squad.  Of the forty riders announced, eight of them are from Bike Manawatu.

In the Under 17 boys we have Robert Stannard, Chris Denholm, Nate Levin and Campbell Stewart.

In the under 17 girls we have Elizabeth Stannard and Michaela Drummond

In the under 19 men we have Mark Findlay and in the under 19 women we have Kate Stewart.

We wish these riders all the best for the coming year and for the others that have missed out on this early announcement we hope you are able to keep producing great results on the road and track that may lead to Bike NZ reconsidering your inclusion in the squad.

When people ask me about my short time as a (pro) cyclist and why I didn’t keep it up, I reply that I didn’t want to become a Belgian pin cushion.

It has been an epic week of riding for those of us who participated in the K2. One person also did another mega-ride from Taranaki through to Tokaanu and down to Taihape. A curious ride was also logged by someone near Levin. It looks like the rider was either completely lost, or they were trying to find every conceivable road to ride on.

Jess is out the front at the moment with 580 km total distance travelled but watch this space. Summer has arrived and the magpie season is almost over, except that nasty one on the way out to Totara reserve.

Tour de Manawatu Charity Cycle Challenge

Good luck to everybody participating the the T de M this weekend!

Apparently entries are already 25% up on last year.  And the forecast is looking OK.

Please remember that the 116km ride starts half an hour earlier (8am rather than 8:30am) this year than previous years.

Don’t forget Colin’s 2 or 3 lapper

Ride safely & have fun!

I thought I would share this email with all the people that met Nick while he was here. Obviously some of you got to ride with him also.

Hello Glenys
Just to say I have got back to the UK following my week in Palmy. A big thanks to yourself for the help with routes and contacts.
Also, a big thanks to your club for making me feel welcome. I made it out for a your Sunday run (very wet and windy!) and your club mates gave me a warm welcome.
I enjoyed the riding, it makes a change to ride somewhere so flat, you can cover some distance quickly!!
I also managed to get out on my own and do your suggested Stoney Creek loop. Despite the insane headwind up the Stoney Creek road :) it was a good loop. I enjoyed the blast back down to Ashhurst from Colyton!
Thanks again for taking the time out to give me a few pointers Glenys. Should you or any of your club find themselves in Yorkshire in the UK at any point, and fancy a spin in the Peak District, then I would gladly take them for a spin to return the favor!
Have a good summer.
