Thanks as always to marshalls on the night and to those that helped with judging on the finish line.

This week we held Criterium races at Linton – slight difference from points races. The prizes from the crits will be awarded on the final WEdnesday night for the season along with prizes from the time trial series.

Winners need to be present to collect their prizes.

All IOUs need to be paid beforehand else prizes will not be awarded.

This event is open to all club members and will incorporate Bike Manawatu's annual championships for for Masters Age Groups, 35 years of age plus in 5 year age groups, i.e. 35- 39 yrs, 40 - 44 yrs and so on, to decide the Age Group Champions.  Entries for club members up to 34 years of age will also be accepted.

Importantly and in addition to Age Group Champions all Masters age women and men results will be used to arrive at a Womens and Mens Track Champion for the 2013, this is arrived at by using a table of actual age handicaps applied to the cyclists actual times for the two events.

The Championships include two events:

  • 2000 metres Individual pursuit (5 x laps of velodrome circuit) and
  • 200 metres flying Time Trial.

The journey began early on Monday morning at Palmerston North Airport, from which we travelled to Christchurch and then onto our final destination Invercargill which would be our home for the next week. The whole WCNI group was staying at the Birchwood Manor Motel.

On Monday once at the motel we got settled into our rooms, I was staying in a room with my dad. We then built up our bikes and got ready for our first ride on the indoor velodrome of the week. This is always an exciting part of cycling as the indoor boards are so much faster than the likes of the Feilding concrete velodrome that we did all our training on!

On Tuesday, after a good training session in the morning we were straight into the racing! My first event of the week was the 500m time trial, this event requires a good start and the strength to carry on your top speed over the full 2 laps. This was not my strongest event as I am not built for the short events, but it was still good to be in the atmosphere of it all. I finished this event with a personal best so I was happy even though I was nowhere near a podium position.
