On behalf of Bike Manawatu we would like to thank and congratulate race organiser Kevin Laskey and his amazing team of volunteers for staging last weekend’s club race at the well-known Mangatainoka Brewery. It was a fantastic event and we want to also thank the riders for a great turnout, no rain and the fun had by all.
45 masters and school’s cyclist raced either one or two laps together around this brilliant safe undulating 24km course and were impressed with their days outing. Riders said for a cost of only $5 for up to an hour and half of racing at your own level followed by a get together after at Tui HQ was fun. Club unity was shown at its best on the bike then over a drink together afterwards with the odd Tui Girl in attendance.
Where possible the club would love to see as many cyclists support our club road racing calendar this year no matter your ability or fitness. By bringing yourself and or your cycling group of friends to an event your fitness will benefit and you are bound to enjoy the socialising with other fellow cyclists while meeting new people is fun. 'Manawatu Schools Bone Collector'

Something different to watch or participate in this year for master’s riders. For years this innovative Manawatu schools event designed for all ages and abilities to buddy up in teams of four to race and build confidence and skills has be fantastic. How it works. The first team rider, normally the strongest starts out and completes one lap of the course on their own and then picks up the second rider and together they complete the second lap and then the third rider is picked up for the third lap and the fourth rider for the fourth lap. The team must cross the finish line together to get 1st,2nd or 3rd placing.
The Course: Ashhurst -Ulysses Road-Watershed Road-Colyton Road-Ashhurst

New Bike Manawatu Secretary Appointed

The club want to thank Adecco Recruitment Agency who professionally managed the process of advertising, screening and helping employ our new club secretary Keryn Paekau.
Keryn is a keen and enthusiast mum of two young great kids who along with her husband are a proud army family. Keryn is new to the cycling world with offers a range of skills suited for the role of Club secretary.
With the guidance of stand in club secretary Catriona Pirie, the board and club members we welcome Keryn to the club and trust she gets the support of you all to help ease her into the role over time. She hopes to learn how each part of the club functions and help the operational side of Bike Manawatu while meeting club members along the way.
The board would like to acknowledge the great work both Catriona and Tom Pirie did for the club while standing in as club secretary and as long-time club members their contribution has been invaluable.

Dylan Simpson returns from Youth Commonwealth Games

In the heat of Burmuda Dylan did himself, his family and friends, sponsors, school, Bike Manawatu, New Zealand and all his supporters proud while competing at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Burmuda. Dylan has met many of the worlds up and coming future stars and experienced global competition which he will remember forever. We done to Dyan and his team and welcome home to prepare for your next goal whatever that might be.

For all club members, young and mature Bike Manawatu have booked the comfort of the Hunterville room at Hotel Coachman for the purpose of club unity where we will be exclusively entertained to witness a re run of the final exciting hours of the overnight hilly stages 14 and 15. These Professional Tour riders will definitely be in the hurt box.

After enjoying watching these gruelling “Tour de France" stages we will be ready to meet at Memorial park for a 10.30am start for a variety of group rides naturally with a coffee stop at the end to finish off a great morning together. We hope you can join us.

A quick Look at Club riders overseas

Dylan Simpson is in Burmuda currently representing NZ at the Commonwealth Youth Games. This week Campbell Stewart had two wins in two days racing in Canada at the UTC Roco Grand Prix while Michaela Drummond continues her tough campaign in the States and more recently the BC Superweek in Canada. Carne Groube and Joel Yates are living the cycling dream racing in the states and be sure to follow Chris Denholm and Jacob Sievwright racing in Australia. Robert Stannard and Alex West are sure to be busy training and planning for upcoming racing in Europe or wherever they are need for their respective teams. Next month watch for Emily Shearman and Libby Arbuckle who are off to the junior world track cycling championships in Italy to represent New Zealand. Club Tour de France Buffett Breakfast

Those who came to our "Bike Manawatu Club Tour de France Buffett Breakfast" held last weekend at club sponsors Hotel Coachman all bonded well together to watch some intense hill climbing while enjoying a great breakfast. At that stage kiwi rider George Bennett was in an incredible 10th place in the overall general classification standings. Sadly, George had to retire from the race days after. This legend will be back!!!
Club rides followed after breakfast to complete a really nice cycling focused morning together continuing the ongoing banter between members. Thank you to our newest board member James Denholm who made watching the Tour de France on the big screen run smoothly.
Next year we would love to see more people join us for this club initiative.

The board would like to thank Catriona and Tom Pirie who have stood in as club secretary after Christine Christie stepped down in late March. Both Catriona and Tom have been committed club members for many years and to have them step in as club secretary and help the board has be tremendous and much appreciated.

Our Manawatu schools start their annual North Island Schools Road Championship on Saturday the 8th of July and for three days of hard racing. With them is an amazing group of dedicated supporters to cheer them on. Our schools have a proud tradition of producing top riders and this new wave of keen young talent we know will represent themselves, their schools, parents, supporters, and the club the best they can. The club wishes them a safe successful campaign.
