They will be riding from Levin in to Palmerston North on Monday 26th September. They areriding to Shannon on SH 57 , from Shannon head to Opiki which means turning left and over the railway lines on to state highway 56 when you are a few kms north of Shannon. From Opiki stay on state highway 56 all the way into Palmy. So it would be really great if a group of Bike Manawatu cyclists could go out and meet them and then turn around and bike "slowly" back in to Palmy with them. they are planning on handing over the scroll with all the signatures that they have collected to the Rugby Museum.

The Novice tour of Manawatu is a tour for licensed riders under 17 years of age and is recognized as a premier One Day Cycle Tour.

It is a 4 stage tour held within the Manawatu region and attracts a high standard of riders from all over New Zealand.

This year the Tour is part of the Bike NZ National Junior Points series.  The Tour is being held alongside the National Schools Cycling Champs that are being held in Levin and Feilding.

This year’s event promises to be hugely exciting with Oceania hosting both the Elite and Junior World Championships next year (Melbourne and Invercargill) and the small matter of London 2012. Entries close on November 7th.  New Zealand riders will require a 2012 BikeNZ licence to compete. Also, be advised the event has been registered as an UCI P1 Para event with international interest from a number of countries. 

Other key events happening in the deep south: While we are at it, just a quick reminder regarding our upcoming Track Event in October from 18th to 20th. This follows the annual Yunca Junior Tour (www.cyclingsouth.org.nz/yuncatour) which is shaping up to feature another record field.’

The pathway to developing some coaching capacity gathered momentum when the Coaching Working Group met for a second time to discuss its organisational structure and terms of reference on 12 August. 

However, it was quickly realised that the working group needed to expand beyond its original mandate of focusing solely on developing coaching to include managers as well.  According to Steve Stannard, it was important to include a team manager capability because nowhere else in Bike Manawatu was this issue being addressed. “Managers go hand in glove with coaching so it made a lot of sense to incorporate them”, he said.
