track teamDid you know the track cycling season is just around the corner?  Are you interested in the challenge of riding a bike with only just one gear and no brakes?

Well come along and give it a go at Johnston Park in Feilding.  You might be surprised to find out how much fun it is and this is one cycling event that is very spectator friendly.

Here’s some dates that you should pencil in if you want to give track cycling a go and you can even hire a bike from the club.  But be aware, bikes are limited – first in best dressed.

track coachingSome weeks ago the Coaching and Managers Working Group provided an update to the membership following its second meeting.

While there exists lots of enthusiasm from those who wish to coach, little is understood about the exact needs of the membership.

The working group is obviously keen to learn more about the coaching needs of its riders, the results of which are likely to heavily influence the development of the working group and certainly assist in the determination of its priorities.

You’re invited to let us know what your coaching needs are by completing the survey.

Pissoir Natural
Yes it’s a part of cycling etiquet.  With groups of riders on the road for several hours, it's convention among cyclists to stop for a break at convenient locations.

However, it’s also good to have some consideration about where to take a break.  Some locations seem to be “natural” stopping points form a riders point of view.

Rumour has it that the people who live around Highland Home (Apiti loop, Pohangina Valley) are complaining about the number of cyclists having a “Pissoir Natural” at the Totara Reserve intersection.

By all means, do what comes naturally, but consider the locals too…

Grass Roots Sports AwardsMuch to the surprise of BikeManawatu governance board members, the club walked away with two of the major prizes at the 2011 Property Brokers Grassroots Sports Awards on Friday evening (23 September).

BikeManawatu was recognised as the region’s top sports club after winning the Sports Club of the Year Award heading off stiff competition.

BikeManawatu also received the ELLEA SPORT best presented club of the year award ahead of contenders Weraroa Cricket Club and Palmerston North Squash Club.

Wellington Schools competition Don’t invite the Bike Manawatu School riders to a schools competition and expect them to just make up the numbers.

Well that’s the conclusion that can be drawn after Bike Manawatu school riders essentially dominated all grades in the Wellington Schools competition held in Upper Hutt on 18 September in cool and damp conditions.
