This week has seen a second crew swing into action at the bottom of the slip, so we now have two teams ready to work seven days a week to clear the slip and get the road re-opened. Although wet weather has prevented work at the top of the slip for the past couple of days, work to clear debris at the bottom is continuing.

The slip

The benching team made fantastic progress this week (in spite of the weather) and we are close to finishing the first bench.

You can see from this photograph just how deep they’ve had to cut down into the hillside.gorge 1

The prizes for the raffle were part of the prize haul that Bike Manawatu won at the grass Roots Sports Awards.

Bike Manawatu not only won the “Club of the Year”, we also won the “Best Presented Club” and were finalists in 2 other sections, “Best Fundraising Initiative” and “Best event”

SO it was decided that all club members should have the opportunity to share in the prizes so 2 of the vouchers from Lone Star  were used as 2 of the draws for the raffle.

Australian team Genesys Wealth Advisers to arrive early.

Australian UCI Professional team, Genesys Wealth Advisers, has signposted its intentions by deciding to arrive six days early for the New Zealand Cycle Classic around the Manawatu from January 25 to 29.

It will enable the riders to become fully familiar with the terrain with the classic’s 25th edition touring the Manawatu for the first time.

Bike Manawatu riders dominated the results table at the Levin track carnival last Sunday (11 Dec).  Mikayla Drummond, Campbell Stewart, Kate Stewart and Matiu Kaihau were the pick of riders across the grades.  Mikayla, Kate and Campbell, showing early season form, were totally dominant in their respective grades but Matiu was made to work for his eventual title from PNP rider Lee Evans.  Lee certainly had the legs over Matiu in the short distance events with great leg speed. But Matiu had the strength and endurance which Lee could not match in the longer distance events.  In the U17 grade, Connell Leahy, Levin Cycling, displayed good confidence and fitness to take most of the races in his grade.

Churchyard Physiotherapy is proud to sponsor the inaugural Bike Manawatu ‘la femme fun ride’.

In this event you will ride on the elite course – so get the same service we give to our elite athletes – quality one on one sessions, with experienced therapists committed to remaining up to date with current best practice to help you achieve your goals.

At Churchyard Physiotherapy we pride ourselves on not just being great at treating injuries but we also take a proactive approach to sporting performance and well-being for good quality of life. In addition to injury management we offer musculoskeletal screening examinations for muscle balance and motor patterning issues – issues that often prevent you achieving your sporting and life activity goals and even predisposing you to injury. We have developed a musculoskeletal assessment for this purpose, at the end of which we will advise you on an appropriate stretching and strengthening regime individualised just for you.

Fiona O’Connor has developed this assessment based on her work and experience as High Performance Sport NZ’s Key Physiotherapy provider in Palmerston North and current BlackSticks Womens Hockey Team Physiotherapist. One lucky participant will receive a Musculoskeletal Screening Package as a spot prize so keep that race number handy!
