The first in the 2012 series of time trials was held on Wednesday 25th January. The series will consist of 8 weeks of competition and conclude with a final night prizegiving. This series we are not only going to award points as has been done in previous series but we are also going to run an age based competition. So there is the opportunity for all age groups to set and break records for their age group on the course.

Sport Manawatu are organising a 33 day focus on Cycling in the Manawatu.

It all begins with the international New Zealand Cycle Classic right here in our own backyard and it continues with 33 days of cycling mania!

Every single day will feature an event, activity or competition related to cycling, everything from international cycle tours to free rides for kids and track cycling for adults.

To top it all off we finish with the second international cycling event in the Manawatu; the NZCT Women's Tour of New Zealand.

So whether you're a cycling fanatic or just an occasional rider, come and join us on our 33 days and lets show that Manawatu is the best place to ride a bike.

Being realistic in their expectations will be a point of focus for the small number of Bike Manawatu riders who will compete in the NZ cycle classic next week as a part of Team Massey.  Bike Manawatu riders will form the nucleus of Team Massey that includes ex professional cyclist Steve Stannard, who now heads Massey’s School of Sport and Exercise and up and coming U23 riders Matiu Kaihau and Max Annear-Henderson.  According to Steve, as the team’s leader, their primary objective will be to get someone on the podium during the stage races.  “Based on the quality of the field the competition will be stiff, especially in the U23 category where Michael Vink and Josh Aitken have dominated recently”, he said. “We are unlikely to win the tour but for us this is more about developing our junior riders in a competition with world class national and international riders”.

No inconvenience at all!

The hugely anticipated NZ Cycle Classic is here!  The Teams are arriving  and the event starts with a 7.1km ITT around Old West Rd on Wednesday, starting at 2:30pm.
