Track prize givingAngus Findlay, Kathryn Young and Campbell Stewart were the three major prize winners from Sunday’s Bike Manawatu School’s prize giving ceremony held in Feilding.  Angus received the Best Result by Team or Individual Award.  Angus’ meteoric rise has been nothing but outstanding.  Having come from golf, and only having recently taken up competitive cycling late in 2010, he quickly became a force to be reckoned with at local and regional level.  His performances were that consistent that he was selected for the NZ U19 Development Squad this year where he competed in Canberra.

Jorge Sandoval’s bid to have a team of UCI Professional Continental status in January’s men’s road cycling Tour of Manawatu has borne fruit.

Jesse Sergent and Simon van Velthooven, whose cycling pedigree was developed through Bike Manawatu’s founding clubs – Feilding and Marist, are doing exceptionally well at the 2012 Oceania Track Champs, currently being held in Invercargill.

Both Jesse and Simon have collected a number of gold’s between them and they now hold the NZ Individual Pursuit and NZ Kilo record respectively. For Jesse, his performance anchored the NZ Team Pursuit win which also resulted in a new NZ record.

Mary-sub-rideWhen looking at the number of events around that target groups i.e. “Weetbix Kids Triathlon”, Bike Manawatu realised that there are a lot of women that cycle but have to compete against men at events. Manawatu is in the fortunate position next year to not only be the sole region in NZ to host a UCI mens cycling event but it will also host the NZCT Womens tour. www.cycletournz.com
