Once again the weather for this time of the year couldn’t have been better. Although it was crisp at 8am as riders started arriving at registration, the garages and pit area soon started to warm up with people sitting on wind trainers. These were the serious contenders. For others (who were there for fun) they got out on the track and in to the early morning sunshine to test out the track and have a look at the new layout for the transition zone. 2014 back view

This year each rider was required to ride with their transponder on their right hand front fork and the lead up to the transition zone remained on the track in a coned off split right to the stopping point. The transponder was then handed to the next rider who then took off down the pit lane and on to the track. This appeared to be a far safer transition than previous years and enabled spectators and team mates a great view. The cheers from this crowd was appreciated and spurred riders on to another lap or more.

Peter McCarthy competing in the Masters 5 age group finished 34th completing the course in 2 hours 13minutes and 37 secs

In the Masters 3 men Stephen Stannard took out the silver medal in a time of 2hours 20mins 47 secs Also in this age category was John Stewart who finished 20th and Toshi Yamauchi who finished in38th.

The most outstanding feat is in the under 17 boys. Campbell Stewart took out the gold medal in a time of 1hour 54 mins and 12 secs.

This now makes Campbell the NZ champion under 17 boys holder of every National champion event in this age group.

At the track he has won the ITT, IP,  points and sprint earlier this year and won the Team sprint, Team pursuit and Scratch race as 1st year under 17.  He also won the Criterium held in Auckland at the end of 2013. He has now won the Road time trial and road race. An outstanding achievement.

It has been suggested that in this day and age that where everybody has access to a computer or mobile device that can access the weekly newsletter that there is no need to post out a quarterly newsletter.

This will not only save time but also postage and printing costs.

There are a few people that don’t get the weekly newsletter because they don’t have a computer at home but this is a diminishing number. For all new club members they will still be posted out the booklet that is soon to be reprinted along with some other things that have been posted in the past to members inside newsletters.eg coffee cards and sticky ICE labels. These are normally posted out at the same time as the newsletter as it saves time rather than mailing each week when members join.

If you know of someone who is a member that doesn’t receive the weekly email newsletter because they don’t have access to it please let me know.

Or if you don’t want a hardcopy newsletter posted out please let me know.

If I don’t hear from you I will assume that you do.
