IMG_2865 copyDespite the threat of inclement weather, a strong number of riders turned up for the Jocelyn Goodwin Memorial ride that was held on 21 June.  It was estimated that over 100 riders turned up to ride the 30km course.  The unexpected media coverage by the Manawatu Standard provided the ride with some additional profile and as a result the capability of riders was diverse going from elite professional (Jesse Sergent) at one end of the spectrum to your average cycling enthusiast at the other.

PatIt would appear that the boys are as happy as pigs rolling in cool mud on a hot sunny day – and yes, the days are warm and sunny.

Pat and Garry survived their trip from New Zealand to France, via Brisbane, Dubai and Geneva, and are now ready to risk life and limb – and lungs, on the country roads and hills of France.

Now is your chance. The first cyclo cross event was held last year and was great fun even for those just watching. This year BM is holding a series of 3 cyclo cross events sponsored by Crank it.

The first is on this Saturday with registration from 1pm at Waterloo park.

Cyclocross is normally a winter event and it is best completed on a bike that is a cross between a mountain bike and a road bike as the course normally contains gravel, tarmac, dirt tracks, grass and other obstacles including mud if any can be found.

So book this in on your calendar and come out for a go or just as a spectator.
