A beautiful, still mid-winter day saw thirteen riders turn up to do a BM individual TT last weekend. The course was Ashhurst to Pohangina and return. One young rider, Michael Richmond, was there and completed the junior distance of 15 km, the rest of the (mostly much older) competitors did just over 25 km which meant the turn-around was right in the middle of Pohangina village. The event was a perfect excuse for the purists who like to race the clock to bring out their TT bike and fast wheels.

Michael completed the 15 km in a very respectable 28:27 and was the first rider to start and also the first one home. The others started a minute apart with Catriona Pirie next to go followed by triathletes Barry Eccles and Dave Scott with their fast TT rigs.

Robert Stannard arrived late and left last of the 13 riders, and on his trusty red SL3 complete with his 32 spoke training wheels did the fastest time, completing 25.3 km in 38:41. Next fastest was Glen Kirk with 39:13, then Neville Weir with 39:58.

It was great to have some visitors from the Manawatu Triathlon Club join the hardiest BM riders for the event, some of whom are off to the Age Group World Champs in Sept.

A fine Saturday afternoon saw 27 riders out at Akers Road.

Three grades raced on an (amazingly) dry circuit. Mitchell Kinghorn won A Grade from Nate Levin after the two of them broke away on the final lap. Kevin Laskey was too strong for B Grade, despite a good effort from the young boys high duo of Fergus Washington-Smith and Ethan Craine. Adam Francis also punched above his weight (as usual!) to finish 4th in this grade. C Grade saw two bunches form on the first lap, with Michael Richmond finishing strongly to win the grade from Jamie Dennis and Luke Scott.

Unfortunately, gravel left lying on the course after the recent flooding saw two crashes with both Alex West and Zoe Croton hitting the bitumen.

The 2014/15 Track season has been a great one! We had large fields, many riders representing us at WCNI and National Championships, and also a huge number of track records broken.

Every race was recorded and points were recorded for every garded club race we had (except club Championships), points were awarded (1st=5, 2nd=3, 3rd=2, 4th=1) and the winner of each category will recieve their respective trophies or cup at the Track Prizegiving on Wednesday 25th March.

The Club Championships is a seperate Competition for medals. Points are awarded to all participants in each age category (1st=6, 2nd=4, 3rd=3, 4th=2, 5th=1. With each participant getting an additional 2 points). Rules can be found by clicking here.

Overall points and club Championships can be found by clicking here.
