I have the role of coordinating the BikeManawatu events calendar.
The calendar is currently being populated with races for 2015, starting with a 2 up TT on 06/06/2015. The organiser for this first race is Chris Sanson.
We need race managers for all other races, and marshalls for all the races or the events can’t go ahead.

HILL CLIMB & ITT POSTPONED
WATCH WEBSITE FOR NEW DATES
Bike Manawatu Masters Age cyclists 35 years of age and over intending to enter the Hill Climb and ITT are advised that these 2 events have been postponed.
Hill Climb
Originally scheduled for Sunday 26 April 2105 starting from Salisbury Street, Ashhurst up the Saddle Road. As all Manawatu locals will be aware with the Manawatu Gorge now closed and road traffic diverted up the Saddle Road this route is now not safe to hold the Hill Climb. It is the desire of Race Managers, Ian Gray and Mike Keenan, to still hold the Hill Climb up the Saddle Road later this year after the Gorge re-opens. A new date in the spring will be announced and it is hoped by then all re-alignment and surface repairs to the Saddle Road will have been completed.
Individual Time Trial
Postponed on Sunday 29th March 2015. New date TBA, venue Horizon's Depot at the corner of Kairanga-Bunnythorpe and Rongotea Roads (Bike Manawatu Club Championships are also being held same venue and time).
These events will appeal to non-racing Bike Manawatu Masters age cyclists, but are not exclusive, all club members can enter the events. For the Masters age groups the results will contribute to determining each Grade Champion (5 year age group) and by applying tabled time handicaps to actual times adjusted times are derived and converted to points defining a female & male Bike Manawatu Masters Champion.

STILL TIME TO ENTER ALL EVENTS - ALL CLUB MEMBERS CAN PARTAKE
Bike Manawatu Masters Age cyclists 35 years of age and over, female and male, are reminded to enter 2015’s 4 event programme over March and April 2015, there is still time. Results count towards Masters Grade Champions and Overall Masters Champions. Road bikes on track OK, no upper age limit, no racing experience or racing licence necessary. Entry fees apply for events.
Younger club members are also invited to enter with their results being recorded but not counting toward any trophies.
The programme for the 4 x events cover 3 separate days as follows (this info is also in Bike Manawatu’s website event calendar):
- Track Events – Rescheduled to Saturday 28th March 2015, 10.00 AM, venue Feilding Velodrome. Individual Sprint 200 metres. flying start and Individual Pursuit 2000 metres against the clock (5 x laps). - Individual Time Trial - Sunday 29th March 2015, venue Horizon's Depot at the corner of Kairanga-Bunnythorpe and Rongotea Roads (Bike Manawatu Club Championships are also being held same venue and time). Registration on the day 8:00-8:30 AM. First rider starts at 9 AM.

Bike Manawatu club masters championships commenced last weekend, the first events were held at the velodrome, Feilding last Saturday in perfect conditions. On Sunday the individual time trial was scheduled but unfortunately a wet dawn intervened and this event was postponed, the new date is still to be advised.
So to confirm masters age club members can still enter the two remaining events as below.

HILL CLIMB CHALLENGE
In 2002 the late Roger Nevatt entered the Manawatu Masters Cycling Club Hill Climb Championship and set a special record for the Hill Climb. Roger qualified for the 44 – 49 age group and set the time of 14 mins 24 secs from a Salisbury St Ashhurst address (to the top of Saddle Road (in front of the gates to the windfarm). This time has not been bettered by any club masters age cyclist over the last 14 years so Ian Gray challenges all Bike Manawatu club cyclists to take on 14 mins 24 secs.
A very generous Ian Gray confirmed this week to put up $100.00 as a prize to any Bike Manawatu club member entered in the 2015 club hill climb championship 44 – 49 age grade and who betters Rogers time. Note if more than one club member in 44 – 49 age grade betters Roger’s time the $100.00 will go to the fastest.

The track events scheduled for last weekend at the Feilding velodrome were postponed due to dangerous conditions, i.e. wet track. All present agreed to reschedule for next Saturday 28th March 10.00 AM weather permitting.
