In the original vision for BikeManawatu, the recreational rides (mainly the Sunday Rides) were going to be organised by a group of members with enthusiasm for the recreational side of cycling.
Recently the Board reviewed its approach and have asked Mike Christie and Mike Keenan to resurrect the original vision of a sub-committee organising all things recreational, with a view to strengthening and expanding the offering to the regions recreational cyclists.
At a recent meeting a group of club members with MMCC heritage got together to discuss a way forward for recreational cycling in the club.
So with thanks to Glenys for all the good work planning and organising the Sunday rides, the new organisers of the Sunday Rides will take over route planning and the logistics on Sundays from Glenys on the 1st of July.
Any feedback welcomed. Send an email to your This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We are having a mid-winter break from club racing, but things will get back to full-swing in July – the new race calendar is to be released soon.
The program for racing will be split into seasons, at the present point in time the school aged members are having a lot of racing as they build up to the North Island and National school champs.
And as the school racing scene draws to a close at the end of term 3, the recreational rides around the country kick off.
So to align with this the senior racers will be gearing up with some club racing starting in July that will build up to the events that are held around the country starting with the Feilding Festival of Cycling which this year is to be held on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th September.

There is a new concept in time trialling currently being trialled and tested around NZ. It is based on having a number of 15km TT courses that cyclist’s can ride whenever they choose and post their times on a website.
This would be be categorised by gender, age group categories with a tandem and 2-up rider option.
The benefits being, it provides a training and competitive option over winter as many clubs don’t run events and would be a non-threatening pathway to encourage people to get into cycling.
The idea has started to gain interest and support with a website set up http://timetrial.co.nz/
To date, two courses have been set up to trial this idea, one in Palmerston North and Otaki ,with more being added around the country in coming weeks.
One of the criteria for a course was that it didn’t use a regular cycling club TT course as this is concept is intended to compliment rather than compete with existing cycling club courses.
If anyone is interested in riding a course, check out the following links.
