Dear fellow cyclists

In March of next year the inaugural Pedal the Plateau ride will take place - a 365 km recreational cycling tour of the beautiful Central Plateau region of the North Island.

We are looking to develop Pedal the Plateau into an iconic, world-famous ride, along the same lines as the famous Great Vic in Australia.

We have many Australian cyclists participating in next year’s ride, but would also like to generate some support locally.

We’re wondering if you would mind circulating this email to you members? We’d love to have more Kiwis along for the ride and perhaps some of your members or their family and friends may be interested?

Thanks to everyone that responded . We have now been able to source a caravan and our time keepers will be very happy.

Bike Manawatu Novice Tour organisers are looking for a caravan to house our timing team during the tour.  The timing team (of two) need somewhere quiet, yet close to the finish line, to enable them to operate their computers in peace and out of the elements.  The caravan we had tentatively booked has fallen through, so we are asking for anyone who might be able to loan us a caravan, to be mainly parked in Ashhurst although with a side trip to Linton Army Camp, over the weekend of 6th and 7th December.  If you are able to offer a caravan, or know someone who might, please contact Katherine Stannard 0275 088 700 or This email address is being protected from spambots. More importantly at this stage, did you do it last year? If so please get in touch with either Mike Keenan by emailing him at  This email address is being protected from spambots. This year the Murray Jessen trophy will be awarded at the end of year prizegiving to be held at Marist clubrooms on Monday 15th December.

The Murray Jessen trophy will be awarded to the Bike Manawatu rider who has the greatest percentage improvement on completing Taupo over the last 2 years.

The prizegiving is to start at 6pm with a BBQ and if you wish to attend it would be helpful for catering purposes if you can please RSVP with the number attending to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The bar will also be open from 6pm.

Thanks to our helpers this week – good to see some of our regulars back helping but it is great to have extra people able to step up so if you want to learn perhaps a new skill or just want to be involved let me know – I am more than happy to pass on a job to someone.
