IT IS ALL GO FOR THIS EVENING SATURDAY 15th FEBRUARY.

MARCEL IS AT TRACK and has said it is all go for RIDE FROM 7pm.

Marcel Hollenstein has decided to set an hour record for the Masters 4 age group (50 - 54yrs) within the club.

There are two categories for "The Hour".

  • Best Human Performance where the athlete can use all the hi-tech gear there is (aerobars, disc wheels, aero helmet etc)
  • The UCI Hour Record where the athlete is restricted to roughly the same equipment as Eddy Merckx which means
    • no time trial  helmets,
    • no disc or tri-spoke wheels.  The wheel or rather the rim profile has to fit within a 22 x 22 mm square.
    • no aerodynamic bars.  Only the standard drops allowed.
    • no monocoque frames

Marcel has decided to go with the UCI Hour record just so it doesn't become an equipment battle (apparently he shares the same birthday as Eddy Merckx who set an world record back in 1972 at 49.431km)

I am looking for someone that would be interested in piloting a tandem bike for a member of the blind community. This member is Sharon O’Hara. She is 41 and has her own road tandem. She is hopefully looking for a female rider that could help her out two or three times a week and set some goals with her. She is desperate to get back on the bike though so any help will be much appreciated.

If you know of anyone that might be interested would you please be able to pass on her details.

Contact details; Sharon O’Hara, 06 353 2123.

Event day is Sunday 4th May 2014. This event has been  very well received over the last couple of years and many that have participated are looking forward to having another crack at it this year. For 2014 we are riding the original direction from 2012 (Whakatane to Mt Maunganui), there is still a 100km and 50km option and  the 50 Km Secondary School Challenge option. Additional to this we have also added the option to enter the 100km ride as a team entry (work/social/gym/bikeshop/bike club). And to help the out of towners with transport logistics we have once again organised bus shuttles. All details are on the website   www.coastncountrycyclechallenge.co.nz  (where we encourage entries to be made) and attached is a copy of the event flyer. There is advertising in the NZ Road Cyclist Magazine and flyers are also at many bike shops. Once again there are some awesome Cannondale bikes up for grabs at prizegiving. There will be one road bike and one non-road bike

All members of Bike Manawatu have been invited to St patricks day celebrations at Marist Clubrooms. Please read the invite attached.
