Bike Manawatu opened the road racing season with a four race criterium series which was held at Linton Camp over the period 15 Jan – 5 Feb. 50 riders contested three grades and the series saw some fiercely contested sprints in very challenging conditions for two of the races. Matiu Kaihau dominated the A grade pack but had to fight off determined challenges from his track rivals Steve Stannard and Josh Chard.
There were some good fields and determined racing throughout the series in B grade, with Fielding’s Steven Snell winning the series comfortably from George Roberts and only 10 points separating the 3rd to 10th places. The C grade racing season is shaping up to be an interesting contest between Micheala Drummond, Kate Stewart, Robert Stannard and Ruby Perry, with all four racing well over the series. Bike Manawatu will commence a Road Race series from Sunday 20 Feb details will be on the website.
