Club member Neil Pollock says farewell

At 75, club member Neil Pollock says he is really going to miss the Manawatu for its people and great cycling when he leaves to live in Auckland soon.
The modest but very determined Neil has really enjoyed the fitness and social side to cycling. He has been aa regular on the Wednesday Morning group, Saturday morning BP Group, the Bike Barn rides and was a keen Kairanga Time trial regular where he holds a club record for his age group.
A big highlight for Neil was competing in the world masters games in Auckland last year.
From your many friends at Bike Manawatu Neil, thank you for being a valued member and participant in both our annual social and event ride calendar.

FFOC POSTER 2016

Hello there

My name is Adrian McKenzie.  I’m the president of the Kapiti Cycling Club – but am writing to you in a private capacity.

In February 2016, I’m going on a 23 day charity ride on a very different tandem bicycle from Cape Reinga to Bluff to raise funds for the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation - the charity that enhances the lives of physically disabled New Zealanders through sport and recreation.
I’m a father of three from Raumati Beach and have first-hand experience of the difference the Foundation makes. My eight year old son Ted has cerebral palsy and we received a $4,000 grant from Halberg to cover the costs of the specialised tandem bike that allows Ted to ride with me.

It is this tandem bike that I’m going to ride across New Zealand. Along the way I’ll be joined on the bike by a number of physically disabled young people, New Zealand sport stars and celebrities and other keen Halberg supporters who will help me raise funds and promote the work of the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation!

'Adrian's Ride for Halberg' will begin in Cape Reinga on Sunday 28 February and finishes in Bluff on Monday 21 March.

I’d love it if you could promote this ride to your club or group members. We would be more than happy to have people join us and have included a list of the start and finish points each day where people can join us. I will post the individual ride routes closer to the time on the website below.

There are also a couple of ways people can donate money to this wonderful cause. Either by txting “Halberg” to 8595 to make a $3 donation to the Halberg Disability Sports Foundation. Or to to www.adriansride.co.nz to make a more substantial donation.

Regards and thanks
