10 days of hectic crit racing at TOAD wrapped up on Sunday

The interesting thing with crit racing or this event in particular is that some riders are there for the full 10 days of racing while others come and go for selected days. The bigger teams bring in fresh legs to target the stage win or support their GC riders. Fresh legs ripping the field with some tired legs equals lots of crashes and much more dynamic racing with the break surviving on 3 of the last 4 days.

Friday & Saturday were tough days for Ethan being blocked on the barriers in the finale on 1 day and dead legs the other. 2nd on GC stretched back out and the buffer to 4th cut to 2 points. Day 10 would be a battle.

It didn’t start well with a visit to the floor in the first 10 mins and another fall later in the race. The late break of 4 stayed away and Butcher Box had a full team lead out for their rider - 4th on GC. Ethan surfed their train and took the “field” sprint for 5th.

With the 2nd place GC rider cracking and not scoring that was enough to move Ethan to 2nd on GC.

It was a great week for the young New England Devo team with Vivian Rindisbacher & Alexander Chrystall both taking 2nd in stages and Alexander 9th on GC and the whole team working hard against some well seasoned crit teams.

ETHAN CRAINE - NEW ENGALND DEVO

After a 12 month postponement due to Covid Ethan Craine left Palmerston North in March to be based in Boston & ride with the New England Devo team until September

After a good period of acclimatization, training and local racing the New England Devo team got their major race campaign under way at the Armed Forces Cycling Classic in Virginia 5-6 June. In his first international elite race Ethan got of the mark with a solid 14th against some of America' top crit racers including the then USA Criterium Champion Justin Williams and the Legion Team from Los Angeles

Next up is the Tour of America's Dairyland 16 - 27 June half way across the country in Milwaukee. 10 days of 75min town centre crit racing with points accumulating from each evenings race towards the overall omnium. As we write they have completed 6 days of racing. Ethan got off to a solid start with a 19th followed by 2 days on the 3rd step, 2 days in 4th, a bad day at the office on day 5 and a solid 5th on day 6. Consistency is paying off and he is currently sitting in 3rd overall on 117 points, 1 point behind 2nd with the tour leader on 152 points. We wish him luck for the remaining 4 days and we'll keep you posted on where he ends up at the Tour of America's DairyLand and the rest of the season

To all our other riders, riding internationally or doing exciting things nationally let us know what you are doing as we'd love to share your stories and successes with everyone back here Palmy

Bike Manawatu - 2021 Trust House Series

After very successful results for our local riders in 2020, Bike Manawatu is looking to enter teams in the Trusthouse North Island Series again in 2021.
This is a teams race series that is raced down in Wairarapa from mid September to early December.
The great thing about this series is that while an individual result is a good thing, it is also a teams race - and your team gets points based on how the team performs.
