During the month of May … We have now modified this month's Strava challenge to include an individual 13kms and 27kms time trial for those that wish to ride solo plus there are the 2- Up TT options. There is also a 13km Newcomers option this month challenge. This category is for an experienced cyclist to ride with someone who is new to road cycling (or you both can be new). This is to encourage your friend, workmate, partner, kids or whoever, to come out and give road cycling a try! Who can you inspire?
-
Find a partner/s and compete in any of the 10 categories including "Newcomers". You can ride in multiple categories. We take your best time with each partner. -
You both need to use Strava to record your ride and finish within 5 seconds of each other. The Challenge entry time is taken from the second rider. -
When you have completed your Time-Trial, complete the 2-Up Registration Form.
Full details on the Challenge can be found HERE

Ever thought of becoming a Cycling Commissaire?
Commissaires play a critical role in our sport, ensuring that cycling races are held in the best possible conditions and that races are run fairly by ensuring that the rules are uniformly applied
Cycling New Zealand have just released dates for some of their up and coming Commissaire courses being held across the country in the next few months.
These courses are designed to give a good insight into the practical application of the rules of the sport. Attending a Commissaires course is a great way to learn more about the rules of racing. Ideal for not only those who would like to attend events as a Commissaire but also for coaches, parents, teachers, riders and club administrators
All the details can be found via the link below https://www.cyclingnewzealand.nz/cnzresources/commissaires-and-officials/

Vaughan Hunt The Associate Minister of Transport is proposing a collection of rule changes known as the Accessible Streets Regulatory Package. Read full details here Proposal 7: Mandate a minimum overtaking gap for motor vehicles overtaking cycles, transport devices, horses, pedestrians, and people using mobility devices on the road Our proposed change will ensure drivers of motor vehicles pass at a safe distance when overtaking cyclists, horses, pedestrians and people using, transport devices and mobility devices on the road. The minimum overtaking gap will be:
- 1 metre when the posted speed limit is 60km/h or less
- 1.5 metres when the posted speed limit is over 60km/h.
A mandatory minimum overtaking gap will:
- set a clear expectation about what a safe minimum passing distance is
- legitimise what’s currently a guideline
- raise awareness of this practice.
The proposed change is expected to decrease the number of incidents involving overtaking vehicles and vulnerable road users.
