We had over 50 riders spread across 5 grades at the 1st race of the Palmfeilds Race Series on Tuesday night at Linton, as well as a number of parents and supporters. Steve Stannard and Joe Sherman were first and second in A grade by a convincing margin with Dale Nicholls and Riley Tunnicliffe fighting it out for third and fourth. In B Grade, Mike Thompson seemed to recover from his 3rd place at the New Zealand Masters Games the day before to tie for 1st place with Harrison Craw, while Andy Richardson was the third rider home C Grade was won by Brendon Wildbore with Pete Thomas and Ellen Twiss second and third Making it a husband and wife double act, Gabrielle Wildbore was first in D Grade with newcomers Damon Liggons and Marty Davenport in 2nd and third E grade saw Evie Richardson as the winner, with Holly Richardson a close second and Tomoko Yamaguchi in third place A big thanks to Mike Craine for providing the timing and Tim Lloyd for the STMS and to our Marshall’s Colin Anderson, Graeme Bull, Roy Hughes, Phil Devlin and Steph Foote / without our volunteers - without you volunteering your time, this event would not have been possible.and thank you also to club sponsor Palmfeild Motors for your continued support of our club and this popular series. This short, flat racing is very popular among our members, and it’s a whole lot of fun - we had a number of new riders who had a blast and are keen to race the next 2 events in the series. The next race on the series is Tuesday 16 February and all the details are here https://www.webscorer.com/registerseries?seriesid=229260 And the 3rd race is 23 February back at Linton with a BBQ and drinks after the race provided by sponsor Palmfeild Motors If you are on the fence about whether or not to enter, talk to any of the riders that came along - they will tell you how much fun this is and can provide some guidance to what grade you should enter if you’re unsure - we’d love to see you there

The Big Bike Film Night Promo Trailer https://youtu.be/UblE0TSVcBA
Synopsis The Big Bike Film Night is on a mission- sharing the best cycling short films from around the world with you.
Showcasing our 2021 collection that has everything a cycle-centric audience could want - action, drama, humour, and plenty of inspiration; the evening is unashamedly and utterly, utterly, utterly designed and devised for the two wheel devotee!
This year’s treasure chest of films includes an incredible story of a transformative bikepacking journey through the Canadian Rockies; an unusual Victorian pastime taking place in modern London; a rider who has a burden of blindness and its vulnerabilities to contend with while undertaking a gruelling self-supported fat bike race in the Arctic; the humble story of a BMX Club and their dream of becoming the number one Club in the UK; a young female rider who goes back in time to carry the stories of the past into the future; four adventurers bikerafting and riding through challenging landscapes, following the historical trails to and from one of New Zealand’s most significant rivers; and a unique bike builder who builds off-road cycles that help change people’s lives; ALL in the mix!!
These short films are a great reminder of why we love to ride our bike; with stories that captivate us, stories that make us think, and most importantly of all- inspiring us to get out and ride. All celebrate the fun, adventure, and joy that cycling enables.
So...listen to the voice inside you; it’s telling you to go. Grab your mates, grab your tickets, GO ON... grab your bike and come along for the ride!! Check out our promo trailer here

Bike Manawatu riders competing at the Junior Track Omnium champs in Wellington 07.02.21
A great hit out in Wellington today with a big contingent of Bike Manawatu riders competing at the Junior Track Omnium champs. There was a clean sweep in the 500 ,TT with the U15 boys Ben Murphy, Austin Tunnicliffe and Zach Woollet taking the top three positions, Sophie Peters had a good win in the U15 girls with Kenzey Compton(WCC) coming second. Jack Overweel, Harrison Craw and Wilson Hannon took the top three spots in the U17 boys and Georgia Simpson placed first in the U17 girls. Riley Tunnicliffe won the U19 kilo race well. It was great to see Whanganui's Cassidy Compton ride away with the win in the U11 girls.
The Omnium was a closely fought battle, with it coming down to the final points race. Austin rode a great tactical race to win the points race and overall Omnium, with Ben Murphy coming second after a gusty comeback after crashing during the points race. It was a great ride by our rookie rider Zach coming third overall.
In the U15 girls, Sophie held out for second place in the omnium with Kenzey Compton just behind in third position. Cassidy Compton continued to dominate in the U11 girls and came away overall winner in her division.
The U17 points race was dominated by Georgia who took a lap on the U17 boys, it was great to watch. Georgia came away with the Omnium win and in the U17 boys, Jack took first, with Wilson in second and Harrison in third. Riley came away with the win in the U19 boys.
A great days racing in some great summer conditions. Fingers crossed that Feilding can show us this weather for next Sundays meeting
Cheryl Murphy
